April 2008

Jim Pritt

by: Tom Whitener

Jim Pritt was once playing golf when the snow unexpectedly started to fall. He thought to himself, “I can’t wait to get to the next hole and get the game over.” In his second year of volunteering with AWANA, Jim cheerfully admits, “I can’t wait to get here on Wednesdays and ride in the van to pick up the kids.” The wait is over for us as well -- Jim Pritt is our April 2008 Member of the Month.

Jim recently celebrated a 45th wedding anniversary with his wife Daisy. He jokes,” She’s really put up with me for a long time.” The Pritts reside in Winfield, where they live close to their two grown children and five grandchildren.  Jim also enjoys retirement following a career in the telecommunications business, which Jim specifically informs me lasted “37 years and 3 months.”

The month of April marks another significant anniversary for Jim. He received Jesus as his personal Savior 17 years ago in 1991. Jim remembers, “I had been going to church all my life and I knew what I needed to do. But I always had too many other things in the way.” After cutting a co-worker’s grass with his own lawn mower, Jim accepted the Lord while driving down the road, on his way back home.

Subsequently, he went forward at Open Bible Church and the pastor gave Jim a Scripture verse to memorize: Psalm 103:8.  Jim adds, “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been able to recall that verse when I needed it.”  His selected hymn of choice is “Our God Reigns.”

When asked about his favorite things about Spring Hill Baptist Church , Jim answers, “It’s the atmosphere around here, from our people to the preaching. But I really look forward to coming to Sunday School. Ray (Hundley) is a tremendous teacher and we have a great time in his class.”

Jim continues to hold the leadership reins for our Men’s monthly Bible Study group. Pastor Mark first approached Jim to facilitate the discussions and Jim didn’t want to turn him down.  Jim has learned several things by taking on this role. “The whole experience has helped me to feel more at ease in a group setting, plus I get to know these guys a little better.” Since this gathering usually occurs on Saturday mornings, Jim concludes, “And it doesn’t hurt to bring in some coffee and donuts."
