Member of the Month

February 2006

Carol Wingett

by: Tom Whitener

Her favorite Scripture verses are found in Proverbs 3:5-6. These words remind our February 2006 Member of the Month that she just needs to lean on Him. With such inspiration, it’s easy to see that Carol Wingett takes a lot of things to heart.

Carol currently works as a hairdresser and lives in Dunbar with her husband of 32 years, Darrell. The youngest of ten children, Carol, was saved in the sixth grade when she attended a revival service at Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dixie, WV. Norman Neimeyer was the evangelist. “Both my brother and I were saved on the same night, so that made the night even more special,” Carol recounts.

She has been coming to Spring Hill Baptist Church for 11 years. Carol describes her initial visit: “I remember the first night my sister Kay and I came here. The people were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. There was a sense of togetherness, where everyone was all in one accord. We knew this was our church.”

Carol is a true encouragement through her consistent prayer requests concerning the salvation of her loved ones. Carol states that prayer is “very important” in her daily life. Carol thoughtfully wonders, “I don’t know what people do who can’t turn to the Savior. How do they cope? How do they sleep at night?”

“In The Garden” and “Beulah Land” are her two favorite Hymns.  Carol points out, “Both songs were sung at my mom’s funeral and, hopefully, they will sing them at mine.”

Being a part of the Joyful Ringers Handbell Choir is one of the church activities Carol really enjoys. Carol comments, “Just about everyone in my family has a beautiful singing voice. Unfortunately, I don’t. Once I heard about this ministry, I knew this is something I wanted to do.” Since the beginning of the Joyful Ringers (in 2002), Carol has only missed one practice, due to her going to the hospital to check on what she thought might be a broken foot.  Luckily, it turned out to be a bad sprain and she was back to rehearsal the following week.

“This article is a nice birthday present for me,” says Carol, who celebrates her birthday on February 4. “It is also interesting to know that I share my special day with two other members of our church family, Bill Smith and Betty Butler.”  Carol will surely share more with us at Spring Hill Baptist Church for a long time to come!
