Charles Kidd

UPDATE: Charles left our church family in mid-2006 to take over preaching duties at a small church in Clendenin, WV.

NOTE: The above picture of the Kidd family was taken following our Christmas morning service. Charles is wearing a tan sweater with stripes and is standing the middle of the back row.

Our January 2006 Member of the Month is someone who cares about his family. He also enjoys the relationships he is building with members of his new church family. Let’s focus on this featured “family” man...Charles Kidd.

Charles became a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in April 2005, along with his wife of 27 years, Julia. The Kidds are proud parents of three children - Alan, 25, who is recently engaged; Kim, 23, who is married and living in Ohio; and Cathy, 16, who is still at home.

When Charles was asked about his experiences during the recent holidays, he replied, “The best present I got this year was having my whole family with me at church on Christmas.” It was the first time the entire Kidd clan had been together in the same church service since Kim was married in 2003.

Mr. Kidd currently works as an exterminator for Mighty Mite Pest Control in St. Albans. After a 25+ year career in the restaurant business, he wanted to do “something different”. Charles adds, “It is a plus that the owner is also a Christian.”

Born and raised in WV, Charles grew up in church. “I understood who God and Jesus were from a young age,” Charles recalls, “but it wasn’t until later in life that I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior.” That moment came on September 14, 1997, when Charles asked Christ into his heart and made a public profession of his faith by walking down the aisle. “I am so thankful that the pastor had an invitation after his message. It was my time to come forward.”

Charles’ favorite verse is the beloved John 3:16. He states, “That’s the whole message – Jesus came to die so that we could live.”  When asked about his favorite spiritual songs, Charles was a little more diplomatic in his response: “I really like ‘Our God is An Awesome God’, ‘Amazing Grace’, and anything that my wife, Julia, sings!”

Charles reminded me that not everyone has family members living close by or is fortunate enough to have family members who care about them. For some, the church might be the only family they have. Charles would encourage “the members of Spring Hill Baptist Church to continue to get together, get closer and be available to serve.”

Charles looks forward to more occasions to minister and fellowship with his church family in 2006. He emphasized, “God uses different ways to reach people. When we share with others, God will ultimately be glorified and we will be blessed for it.”
