Pat Kidd
by: Tom Whitener
Pat Kidd ended up marrying the mystery man she first met on a blind date. Together, they have enjoyed 52 years of shared experiences. Our July 2006 Member of the Month maintains an attitude of gratitude.
Pat and her husband, Kenny, live on Ohio Street (the same street as Spring Hill Baptist Church) and they have attended our church for at least 45 years (give or take). The Kidds raised two daughters (Peggy and Tammy) and are now assuming the role of grandparents to two boys and one girl. “I just love being a grandma!” Pat tells me.
Although she doesn’t remember the exact time of her salvation, Pat does recall how special she felt after being baptized in Spring Hill Baptist Church by Pastor Robert Guelich. She proclaims, “I felt such a presence. I knew that I was saved.” Pat enjoys good Gospel music, especially songs from Bill Gaither. Her favorite hymns are “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “In The Garden”. She holds John 3:16 as a meaningful Scripture verse.
Pat’s health has been challenged recently. She’s
had 3 intense back surgeries over a period of 15 months, starting in 2003 with
the most recent procedure in 2005. Pat explains, “From what the doctors can
tell, there was no injury. It’s just from deterioration. During my last
surgery, they took out one of my ribs, ground it up and used it to strengthen my
vertebrae.”
“I know God has been there through it all,” Pat said. “And I attribute a lot of my welfare to Kenny’s good care and support. I depend on him so much.” Pat professes that Kenny is a “really good cook” and one of her favorite things is when he makes home-made pancakes topped with strawberries. She has also received the benefit of exchanging four months of wintry, West Virginia weather with relaxation in the Florida sunshine for the past few years.
Pat wanted to thank her church family for the many prayers, phone calls, cards and visits throughout her recovery. She adds, “Our people are the best. Everyone has been so nice to me.”
The last time I asked Kenny how Pat was doing, he responded, “She has her good days and her bad days, and today was a good day.” Let’s pray Pat continues to have more good days ahead.
