Member of the Month
March 2006

Mick Hall
by: Tom Whitener
Our March 2006 Member of the Month “currently” works as
an accomplished electrician with almost 40 years of practical work experience.
His smile “lights up” when he talks about his seven grandchildren. Once he
re-dedicated his life in 1981, his whole life was truly “transformed”. It
should come as no “shock” that Mick Hall is selected for this month’s
feature.
Born and raised in this area, Mick now lives in South Charleston with his wife of 24 years, Sue. Mick is also the proud parent of five children: three daughters (Stephanie, Tiffani, and Leslie) and two sons (Matthew and Michael).
He has been a regular “fixture” at Spring Hill Baptist Church since the early 1980’s - give or take a couple of years when his family briefly moved out to Cross Lanes. Mick explains, “I started coming here because it was my mom’s church. After she died, we continued to attend because we felt this was ‘just the right size’ church. This is our extended family.”
Although he was saved at Grace Baptist Church in the 8th grade, Mick really didn’t feel like he made a real “connection” until after he re-dedicated his life to Christ. His favorite verse in the Bible is Hebrews 13:5, because Mick knows he has a “main power source” who is always there, no matter what circumstance might be presented.
Mick is actively involved in the AWANA program and works as a leader with the Cubbies. When asked why he enjoys that age group (3 and 4 year olds), he responded, “I like to watch them grow. Those kids have so much natural energy.” Over the years, Mick has shown a faithful commitment by taking on different roles in the AWANA program. “I remember when our church first started AWANA as an outreach to the community. We actually held it on Friday night (as opposed to our present Wednesday night format)”.
There are many “outlets” of ministry in our church. Mick recalled a challenging “charge” that a long-time church member, Denver Miller, once told him, “If you can’t give a testimony in your own church, how can you expect to give a testimony outside of the church?” Mick’s testimony can provide a “spark” of encouragement for all of us to reach others for the Lord.
