Aaron Brooks
by: Tom Whitener
You
might know him as the “Sound Guy”. You can see him on most Sundays and
Wednesdays, as he turns on the sound system, records various portions of our
worship service and makes sure everyone in the congregation hears the message
“loud and clear”. It’s time to turn the tables and hear from Aaron Brooks,
our November 2005 Member of the Month.
As a member of our Spring Hill Baptist Church since 1999,
Aaron first discusses the time when the new sound system was installed in late
2002. He laughs as he talks about “one scary ladder” used in the process.
The “sound-board” responsibilities practically landed in his lap. Aaron was
sitting in the back of the church and was asked to turn on the sound system
before a Sunday morning service. The job has basically been his ever since.
Mr.
Brooks resides in Dunbar with Rozella (his wife of 19 years) and their teen-age
daughter, Jessica. As far as fatherly advice goes, Aaron says, “I want to
encourage Jessica to seek the Lord’s guidance as she decides what to do with
her life.”
Aaron
was born in Huntington and grew up attending church as a child. While going to
church with Rozella some years later, he answered the call of the Gospel message
after hearing one of the pastor’s sermons. Following a health concern, Aaron
decided to re-affirm his salvation because “it was too important to not know
for sure”.
Mr.
Brooks currently works for the U.S. Army as a civilian. Being a supply
technician, Aaron orders and distributes clothing, equipment and ammunition to
ROTC students on the campus of West Virginia State University. Aaron adds, “ I
really don’t like cleaning M-16s...Paint Ball guns rule!”
Some of his favorite verses in the Bible are found in Luke 4:16 –21. The entire passage provides special inspiration to Aaron, from the point when Jesus enters the synagogue until He declares “This day this Scripture is fulfilled in your ears.” Aaron also lists “How Firm a Foundation” as a favorite hymn. “I used to listen to the song while I was driving,” he recalls, “They played it at the beginning of J. Vernon McGee’s radio program on WEMM.”
Aaron
offers three reasons why he comes to Spring Hill Baptist Church. He concludes,
“I enjoy learning about the Lord, seeing how God works through His people, and
experiencing how things work together for His purpose.”
